The PTA’s Family and Community Engagement (FACE) committee is here to make sure that all Decatur families feel included in, and engaged with, our school. We are working to promote family/school partnerships, and to reach out to the broader community, both to increase the resources that are available to our students, and to give our children the tools they need to become better citizens in the future.

We are planning a number of activities throughout the year and want to hear your ideas! Please contact if you have suggestions for activities or events that you think would promote our goals.

There are some local events happening this month that are open to the public and may be of interest for some of our families.

Kids and Race: Changing the Narrative

Temple Beth Am – 2632 NE 80th St

This Kids and Race workshop consists of two concurrent sessions, one for adults and one for children. The session for adults uses a combination of lecture and open discussion to show how the stories we unintentionally tell our children can cause negative views of people of color that detrimentally affect both white children and children of color.

The children’s session utilizes art, music, movement, and story telling to grow confidence and self esteem while fostering empathy for people of color and other marginalized groups.
